Are Your Kids Misbehaving?

Children misbehave because they are sinners (like us) in need of a Savior. However, fear and anxiety can definitely contribute to escalated behavior problems in children.

Are Your Kids Misbehaving

Kids are hearing about the scary things happening in our world right now and, more than likely, sensing the stress of their parents. So, if your children are acting out in ways they normally don’t, I encourage you to talk with them and ask some questions to see if fear and anxiety might be driving their behavior.

Let them know that yes, there are some scary things going on right now, but we can turn to our God who loves us and helps us when we are afraid.

Here’s a simple idea that might encourage children (and us) during this season:

Older Children:

Have them write out the verses below and tape them throughout the house to remind the whole family of God’s faithfulness when we are afraid.

Younger Children:

You write out the verses below and encourage them to draw or color a picture to illustrate what these verses mean to them. Choose a place to display their work and discuss the work God is doing in their (and our) hearts during these scary times.

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you” (Isaiah 41:13).

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27)
